Laura Webber, LW Excellence in Dental Management

The other morning, I stopped at my local coffee shop to grab my usual order.  As I waited in the drive-through, the person in front of me handed me a little surprise: a snowman-shaped cookie.  A stranger, no agenda, just a small gesture. Yet, it completely brightened my day.

It made me think: sometimes the smallest acts create the biggest impact.

This isn’t just true in life, it’s true in our workplaces too. Little gestures, moments of connection, and thoughtful appreciation can completely shift the tone of a day for your team.  As someone who’s spent over 20 years in dental management, I can confidently say: team culture isn’t optional, it’s foundational.

The Reality: Teams Are Running on Empty

Dental practices are high-pressure environments. Doctors, office managers, hygienists, and front desk staff juggle an endless stream of responsibilities: patient flow, production goals, insurance challenges, scheduling headaches, and more. Even the most dedicated teams can feel exhausted.  I’ve seen it time and time again.  Hardworking, caring teams are running on fumes, and are not being acknowledged.  When the culture suffers, every system in your office is affected.  What affects the team affects production, patient experience, and even staff retention.

Culture isn’t just “nice to have.” It’s the foundation that supports every system in your practice.

Dental teams look to their leaders—dentists or office managers—to create an environment that uplifts, motivates, and inspires. When that culture is neglected, even the strongest teams begin to fray.

Why Small Gestures Matter

That simple snowman cookie reminded me that small acts of appreciation can have a ripple effect.  In the workplace, these gestures might include:

  • Handwritten notes recognizing a team member’s contribution
  • Shout-outs during morning huddles
  • Celebrating personal milestones, like birthdays or anniversaries
  • Quick team celebrations after hitting production goals

These seemingly minor actions create connection, trust, and positivity. Teams feel seen, valued, and energized, which leads to better performance and engagement.

How This Sparked Something New for Me

That morning, I realized how much joy I get from lifting others, especially the incredible dental teams I work with. Over the years, I’ve helped practices improve systems, and boost production, but the most meaningful transformations I’ve witnessed always started with the people. From the laughter during morning huddles to the camaraderie during busy days, these moments of genuine appreciation are the spark that ignites energy and engagement in a practice.

And it hit me: maybe this is something I’m meant to focus on more intentionally.

Introducing Team Culture Experiences

I’m thrilled to announce a new offering under LW Excellence in Dental Management: Team Culture Experiences

These experiences are designed to bring joy, connection, and appreciation back into workplace environments (such as dental practices), by building stronger teams and improving the day-to-day energy in your office.

What This Could Look Like

  • Team appreciation events: Celebrate hard work and togetherness in a meaningful way
  • Team-building workshops: Foster collaboration, trust, and connection
  • Custom small activities: Even small surprises can ignite joy and strengthen bonds

Think of it as team-building with heart. Every office has its own personality, rhythm, and needs, and my approach is completely tailored to fit each unique environment.

Why Team Culture Matters in Dentistry

Dental practices are often highly technical and goal-driven, which is essential for patient care and production.  But without a strong team culture, even the best systems and technologies can fail.

Here’s why focusing on culture matters:

  1. Improved Retention: Valued and appreciated staff are less likely to leave
  2. Higher Engagement: Teams who feel connected and motivated perform better
  3. Better Patient Experience: Happy staff lead to happy patients
  4. Smoother Workflow: Teams that collaborate well handle busy days with less stress
  5. Positive Practice Reputation: Culture influences referrals and community perception

Simple Acts, Big Results

You don’t need a massive budget or elaborate events to see results. Even small, intentional actions can shift your office culture:

  • Celebrate small wins daily
  • Encourage peer recognition
  • Incorporate fun, light-hearted moments into team meetings
  • Take time to check in personally with team members

These small gestures not only boost morale, but they also increase productivity, collaboration, and patient satisfaction.

How I Can Help

With Team Culture Experiences, I work with your practice to:

  • Assess your team dynamics and office culture
  • Design personalized team-building workshops or events
  • Create simple, actionable routines for recognition and appreciation
  • Implement systems to maintain culture consistently

Whether your team needs a major morale boost or just a small spark of joy, I can help design experiences that leave staff feeling valued, refreshed, and inspired.
